Question Of The Day: Should Nikki Tinker Continue Her Campaign As A Write In Candidate?

Nikki Tinker came in second place in the 9th congressional district seat. There are many in the black community that feel that only a black should represent the district. Many will not vote for Steve Cohen, because he's not black, and because he's jewish. So would the answer to that be a write in candidate?

Nikki's camp views this site so let her know what you think. Would you support her as a write in candidate? would you write her in? Would a write in campaign by Tinker make it easier for republican mark White to win? And what would this mean to Cohen's campaign?

YES!

NO.

Let her run for local office and PROVE she deserves to go to Washington. She needs to be a part of the 9th District longer than 2 years - if you think Cohen knows little about South Memphis I bet Ms. Tinker and her pearls know even less...

We need new blood in this brain dead God forsaken city. Blood from elsewhere outside of Memphis.

Cohen is a good bet for the district and so was Tinker. Either way the district wins!

Cohen is no stranger to South Memphis. just because the media doesn't show him there does not mean he is not there.

I wonder how many people even know how to enter and vote for a write in candidate. Harvey spent his waking errors and all of his emotions knocking Luttrell while he sat on his ass with sick leave pay while knocking his boss, yet his boss won by almost two to one over Slasher French. I didn't even see a number of votes for Harvey in the Commercial Vote Tables this morning. Maybe, it resulted from Harvey's posts being so transparent.

I'm sure, unlike Harvey, Tinker has more sense, but if she doesn't then she can live with the same type of problem that possesses Harvey. Write in candidates usually have names like Mickey Mouse and Flash Gordon.

I will suppport Nikki Tinker AGAIN if she made that decision. I would support her if she even ran for Mayor. It doesn't matter where you come from it's how much you know. It would of made much sense if 12 wannabe congressmen on the ballot would have just dropped out of the race. They never had a chance. Never a plan, a platform or a voice only pride.

Why should we vote for her?

Anonymous said...

That is our problem right now. Why vote for someone who is already bought and paid for? Ask yourself, where did her money come from. How long has she been in this City. Known fact that power brokers paid for her race. Ask yourself why? What do they want in return. Wake up people. What do we really know about a Nikki Tinker other than she is an Attorney. We just let anyone come into our City, no experience, no nothing and simply because they can afford bigger signs and television ads, here we go "Pumpkin Heads" and vote for her. Wake Up, Please. Yes, she is bought and paid for.

Why would people from Washington, D.C. pay THOUSANDS of dollars for her campaign in little old Memphis, Tn. Look at the ads that was ran for her paid by people out of Washington, a political womens group and why are our power brokers downtown paying for her to run? We shoot ourselves in our own foot. On one hand we talk about what we will not allow, cronies and any other name in the book. On the other hand, we play right into the powerbrokers ballpark.

NO...NO NO! Little Nikki should get her butt off that porch...stop looking for a Check and start picking up her check! Go to work girl...show the community that you realy care!

I am the Memphis Spy and I approve this message!

Tinker was not bought and paid for- she earned the respect, she cares about the future of Memphis- she knows what are Black children lack but most importantly what our children need. I know my daughter would have MUCH to gain in HER future when you have a candidate as Tinker that sees beyond SELFISH GAIN. But THINKS quite impressively about what a growing city as Memphis should be aiming towards. Memphis kids need a deserving chance and not have to
settle for LOW EXPECTATIONS. You think ANON1140- it's going to take money and resources to pull this off- can you say you have the capability to gain money and resources AND support to turn this crazy thing around- OUR BLACK KIDS FUTURE DON'T LOOK TOO BRIGHT (gangs, guns and drugs are killing them)
Over $526,000- says she can go after a winning chance to get the needs for the 9th District.
SET an example ANON1140 -stop resulting to name calling that's why are children are destitute of knowledge or education!!!

Last time I checked-- a social security check DOES comes when you do get off your butt and work! Ya THINK!

Look at history and you will find that Jewish people strongly supported black civil rights when others didn't. As an oppressed population, Jews had empathy for blacks who were also oppressed. It appears that blacks are willing to turn on anyone not black. I see no hope for the future of Memphis if this mindset continues.

If Cohen has deep compassion and concern for humankind- hats off to him -regardless of his religion. Tinker has a strong background (wisdom of grandmother very profound to her and many others)and deserves the opportunity to lead the 9th District-regardless of her religion. It's about representing God's people-- all this emphasis on religion is pointless so get off it! We are human by nature- all this general talking about what Jews did and what Blacks will do-POINTLESS. If it walks like a duck-quacks like a duck it's a duck by golly!

I sure hope she do..

I'm sitting here on the porch waiting on my check.

Nikki,

I hear your old 'Bama home calling you. Take your show back on the road-maybe you can move to Arkansas and try it again....

Should Nikki continue? I am a black female and my answer is NO!! Nikki needs to "show herself approved" in Memphis first.

Nikki, Memphis is not for sale.

I'm, sure that she is very ambitious and smart. I am also sure that her hometown would appreciate her returning with "all that education that God gave her".

Go back to Alabama and make a difference.

As a black female I sure hope you are not raising kids. Bless their little hearts if you taught them all that silly talking you're doing! Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Dr.Mae Jemison and Vivian Malone moved from Alabama and all made a difference.

Anon 2:33 You just got SCHOOLED.
Show YOURSELF APPROVED! Go Back to School!
NIKKI NIKKI NIKKI NIKKI NIKKI NIKKI!

No. I will not support her as she does not have the experience. She is not the best candidate to represent us in DC. I do not care what state she is from she has not lived in this state nor this town long enough to even begin to understand the needs here - the NEEDS of all the people of the District. I don't want her to leave here - I want her to make a difference HERE. If she feels that strongly about being a rep for Memphis then roll up your sleeves Nikki and do it in Shelby County first. Then we will see if you deserve to go to DC.

It's a shame that a white male won in the 9th Congressional district. Black folks should feel ashame of themselves. This is the case of 'Turning Back the Clock'.

Anonymous said...

The 9th district has had a black rep for years and look how great it is! Let's see what the white guy can do for change...

I would like to see what the black males can do in the homes of the children they are producing.

I would like to see them start treating their black women with a little respect.

I would like to see them away from the carwashes and out in their littered yards playing crap and drinking beer.

I would like to see them at the least try to perform an honest days work.

Once they do this, their world will begin to change for them. Only they (not a politician) can make a difference in their lives and communities.

These are the first steps.

P.S. I have to say that there are millions of black men who ARE taking care of their business but they are in the minority. And there are plenty of white "trash" men doing the same damn thing. They piss me off too.

The men who are responsible are the ones to whom I give the utmost respect.

Cohen is a black female. What are you all talking about?

Anonymous said...

This is a racists town with the blacks leading the charge.....

Wake up black people ... at lest pick someone with talent.

You stated Nikki raised over $500,000. You just SANCTIONED what I was saying to the people. WHO, WHY, AND HOW COME people would donate so much moeny to an Unknown candidate. If the readers pull up her campaign contribution, the truth shall be known that I am telling the truth. As I stated before, she is bought and paid for. I attend a lot of meetings concerning our communities and I had never heard or seen Nikki Tinker until she ran for office. Yes, I contribute a lot of my money, time and resources to help not only the children in our community but the elderly also. You are not speaking to one that does not know politics. As I stated before, she is bought and paid for with that $500,000 or more in contributions. Look at the names that donated.

This talk is just amazing to me. Don't you all see how racist you all sound? Let's talk bottom line people. Color doesn't matter. Experience does. Period, end of the sentence. Nikki is a nice lady, though I am re-thinking that appraisal after the Emily List debacle. But what is all this blogging about concerning race? Do you think Martin Luther King would be pleased with all this controversy after he talked about equality? Enough. I'm sick of it. The right person for the right job. The most qualified person for the right job holds the keys. What are you all thinking that someone who is a shill for Trenary and his arm twisting to get monied people to belly up to the bar to support Tinker? Steve won by experience, caring and hard work. Pearls and good looks, not that Steve doesn't have the same, except the pearls, doesn't make a formidable candidate. Hard work, understanding Shelby county and their consituents does. A write-in? Give me a break. Memphis, grow up. Get over being black or white. We want someone who cares about us, black, white, yellow, man or woman. Done.

Bernie said...

Yes--in whatever race is coming up next in Alabama.

Anonymous said...

No. I will not support her.
On a related note: how is it race from both sides are playing a major role in this election. Whatever happened to supporting the most qualified? Instead, candidates are being elected into office just because of the color of their skin. Racism goes both ways.
