A witness in the federal corruption trial of former Atlanta mayor Bill Campbell who admitted passing cash to Campbell,testified last week that he also passed a large amount of cash to Willie Herenton who is a friend of the former mayor.Memphian Dewey Clark a former aid of Campbell stated that he gave Willie Herenton $9000 cash in his office. Clark did not say when the payment was made or what it was for.
Clark also testified that he gave $1000 as a campaign contribution to Herenton.he also said that he gave $1000 each for Reginald French a former aide and confidant to Herenton,and French's wife to putin their names as campaign contributions to herenton. French says 'That's absolutely absurd",But this is the same guy who in 2003 in a federal trial where he and herenton were subpoenaed to Atlanta to testify in the trial of Herbert McCall,thenAtlanta commissioner of administrative services.McCall and Larry Wallace,Atlanta's chief operating officer at the time came to Memphis in 2000 to persuade Herenton to hire two Atlanta contractors,but herenton said he wasn't interested.
According to evidence given at the trial French passed $10,000 from an Atlanta contractor to McCall and Wallace following a January 2000 breakfast at the Peabody.French says he was unwitting duped in the transaction.But anyone who knows French would find this very hard to believe. Plus Herenton's campaign disclosures show that on April 29,1999 French gave $1000 and his wife Michelle also gave $1000 to herenton's campaign,and the very next day April 30, Dewey Clark gave $1000 to the campaign.
What do you think the payment was for? There's a lot of talk about kickbacks in connection to the FEDEX forum that will lead back to herenton and former County mayor Jim Rout. It was reported that French also wore a wire,why? would one wear a wire for the feds if they didn't have something on them?
Where will it all lead? I have spoke with persons who have been in contact with the FBI concerning Herenton and the Forum since 2003. And those persons feel that herenton and Rout both may have some federal problems coming real soon.
Do you think that Herenton is guilty of taking the $9000.Do you think that Herenton is corrupt? Will this lastest report hurt French's bid for Sheriff? And will this fuel the recall fire?

Between the Atlanta testimony/tapes and the reports on the "Forum Follies," Willie has his hands full. He probably won't have time to oppose the recall. Since he obviously isn't going to come out and defend himself, he looks more and more like a cooked goose.

You'd think Willie would be man enough to step down after all that he's been caught at in the last few years. Could the reason he hasn't stepped down be that if he does step down, there won't be anyone to cover his tracks? I'll bet he spends each and every day covering up his tracks and keeping his stories straight-I'm sure its a full time job. Face it Willie, its time to GO.................

Herenton is somewhere getting his story straight. Wonder when he testifies, if he'll plead the fifth if asked about the $9K? You would think that he would have arranged to take the money (even if for a legitimate reason) at his home. I'm tired of these Memphis politicians who don't know how to be smart about participation in shady deals.
It appears that a lot of people in Memphis wear wires? What's up with that!! If you are doing dirt in Memphis you should assume the person you are speaking to is wired or recording your conversation. In Tennessee it is lawful to record someone without their knowledge. Wires, Wires, Wires, get your Wires here going real cheap. The Feds will give you three for a dollar. You got to be more careful.
Remember last year when Herenton popped up with the press to announce he was the subject of an FBI investigation, but then refused to give details? Is this that investigation? Or was it the Little Rock law firm / bond deal? Or something else? Gosh, so many things to choose from....
did you just see herenton get mad at reporter terrence bates on channel 24 when asked point blank if he took any money? herenton is getting mad about open court documentation in atlanta being reported here in memphis. he just wants all of this kept quiet and swept under the rug. this guy is a joke. but, we all better pray that this recall works cause these idiots will for sure vote his crooked ass back in if it fails.

Memphis is rapidly becoming 1 big ghetto as the people - black and white - that have money are moving out in droves. Memphis will suffer for decades because of the corruption that W. W. and others are involved in.
As for FedExForum - if there were bribes made to certain contractors, that almost always results in a poorer quality building. We'll see how the Forum holds up over the years.
Someone should persuade A.C. Wharton Carol Chumney or some other reputable person to oppose this demon in the next election. God have mercy on us all if he survives the recall or the election
